Dress Code:

Traditional Argentine garb include gaucho clothes for males and brightly colored embellished dresses for women. Of all the traditional costumes of Argentina, gaucho clothes are the most well known.

 In contemporary Argentina, however, the dress is very similar to what one might expect to see in the United States. 

Dining etiquette and table manners

  • To celebrate a special occasion, to meet friends, or to honor someone you should prepare homemade food such as French fries, patties, and pasta.

  • It is considered polite to leave a small amount of food on your plate when you have finished eating.

  • Do not begin eating until the hostess invites you to do so. “iBuen provecho!”

  • Always keep your hands visible when eating, but do not rest your elbows on the table, Wait for a toast to be made before taking the first sip of your drink. And when you have finished eating, place your knife and fork across your plate with the prongs facing down and the handles facing to the right.

Gift Giving Etiquette
  1. If invited to dinner at an Argentine's home bring a small gift for the hostess.

2. Do not give knives or scissors as they indicate a desire to sever the relationship.

Gender

Argentina has a history of female leaders, as well as internationally recognized images that symbolize the heavy participation of women in the political, social, and domestic fields.

 

  • Women in the workplace earn 98 percent of what men do in Argentina.

  • Argentina was the first Latin American country to adopt a quota law for women's participation in Congress.

  • The country is ranked 15th in the world for female participation in national legislation.

 

 

Say "encantado" if the person you are greeting is a man or "encantada" if the person is female, which means I’m pleased to meet you!, say this only upon your first meeting since it is a formal expression and is not commonly used between friends or previous acquaintances.
